2025 Year of the Snake
2025 is the year we sought truth, dealt with grief, gave space for endings, and gave way to the shedding of skin that no longer serves our souls. I, as a pragmatic Earth sign, went through the steps: acknowledged, analyzed, ignored, and finally begrudgingly accepted the shedding that is uncomfortable but necessary to move forward. I took a leap on a dream I had and opened a store while grieving the physical loss of my mom, and the emotional loss of close friends and family. I am not going to lie, it was a hard, emotional, confusing year. I made mistakes-made the same ones a few times-before I was ready to let go of old beliefs and shed what no longer serves me and my next truth. (I want to give a big shout-out to Dave and Melanie. Thank you for always planning accordingly and not letting me forget what acceptance really looks like. WHL 4-Ever.)
2026 Year of the Horse
As some of you know, we have a horse, George. When I learned that 2026 is the Year of the Horse, it struck a chord with me. I have never liked horses; I was always (and still am) a little intimidated and unsure around them. I grew up in suburban neighborhoods as a latchkey kid, well versed in MTV, Aqua Net, black eyeliner, sneaking out of the house, and causing a ruckus. I was never around horses, never knew anyone who had horses, and the few times I went on a trail ride, I was sneezing, wheezy, scared, and all around not a happy little Taurus.
Fast forward to the year my daughter was born. Her father’s side of the family has horses, loves horses, and was excited to show her the horses, and what do you know-the kid is a natural-born rider with a gift for communicating with them. (This is when I learned Spirit has a sense of humor.) Referring back to that pragmatic Earth sign that I am, I begrudgingly accepted that I am now a George person. Not necessarily a horse person, but in the grand scheme of life, I’ll take the win of personal growth over fear for the reward of giving kisses on that velvet nose of his.
The Year of the Horse, 2026, brings movement, freedom, passion, beauty, power, opportunity, and a return to truth after the shedding of skin in 2025. For me, this is a reminder that what I shed in 2025-while hard and painful at times-gives me the courage and faith to move forward outside of my fears into 2026. I pull from my past of being able to overcome my fear of horses to trust myself and gain the privilege of being around an animal that continues to teach me how to regulate and be in the moment. (Did you know that horses can match their heartbeat with yours?) I am going to take a lesson from George for this next year and give myself permission to accept the power I have within me to move forward with passion. Knowing I have shed what no longer serves me, I am releasing the expectations I put upon myself and welcoming new opportunities of freedom and movement.
2025, the Snake, asked you to let go.
2026, the Horse, asks you to rise.
I hope to see my wonderful customers, friends, and family join me in this rebirth of our true selves and harness the power within.
